The LWC sponsored Forever Young Club is made up of LWC members age 60 years and older. The purpose of this club is to encourage continued health and independent living through the use of exercise and positive social interaction.
“Wellness is more than being free from illness. It is a way of life; taking charge of your own health and controlling factors which affect well-being.” Although the senior citizens who are members of the LWC are a very diverse group of people with different backgrounds, they all share a common goal—improved physical health and well-being.
New members who are 60 years of age are given the opportunity to meet with a fitness coach who provides goal setting, a basic fitness assessment, nutrition information an exercise plan of action, and a three visit orientation with follow-up visits at 30, 60, and 90 days.
There are several group exercise classes that appeal to Forever Young Club members. Classes designed with the senior member in mind include: Forever Young Muscular Strength and Range of Motion, Movers and Shakers, Group Active, Tai Chi/Yoga as well as aquatic classes that include Aquacise and Twinges in the Hinges Arthritis Class.
The Forever Young Club is very active socially as well. Annual events include:
- Summer pot luck picnic at the Lutheran Camp Site
- Halloween Party (costumes encouraged)
- Christmas pot luck dinner at the Marion Senior Center
- Out of town group day trips
The Forever Young Club is always looking for ways to raise funds to support their social activities. Some of these events include an annual children’s fashion show and bake sales. The Movers and Shakers are a primary contributor to the needs of the club.
